A2LA’s Cyber Security Program Expands to Include ISASecure™ Certification Schemes for Automation Controls

Home » ISO/IEC 17065 » A2LA’s Cyber Security Program Expands to Include ISASecure™ Certification Schemes for Automation Controls

June 28, 2022 by A2LA

June 28, 2022 – Frederick, MD – The American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) is proud to announce its cooperation with The ISA Security Compliance Institute (ICSI) on ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation of third-party product certification bodies operating ISASecure™ certification schemes for industrial automation and control (IAC) products and systems.  ISCI, a not-for-profit automation controls industry consortium located in Research Triangle Park, NC, offers several schemes for off-the-shelf industrial automation and control technology including the Component Security Assurance (CSA) Certification and System Security Assurance (SSA) Certification.  ISCI also offers the Security Development Lifecycle Assurance (SDLA) Certification program which applies to development processes used by suppliers of control system products.  Based on security requirements published in the IEC 62443 series of standards, the certification schemes demonstrate suppliers’ commitment to protecting products and systems from a variety of cyber security threats.

The ISASecure™ certification schemes are unique among the growing list of cyber security accreditation programs offered by A2LA. As Jonathan Fuhrman, A2LA Program Manager states, “While cybersecurity conformity assessment is well-established in testing and inspection body activities, ISASecure™ is A2LA’s first cybersecurity program to utilize ISO/IEC 17065’s framework for product certification.  With regular reports on cybersecurity in media outlets and the implementation of IoT technologies, we fully anticipate the arrival of additional cybersecurity certification programs here in the near future.”

Andre Ristaino, ISCI Managing Director commented, “We are pleased to announce the addition of A2LA as an ISO/IEC 17011 Accreditation Body supporting the ISASecure® ISA/IEC 62443 certification scheme.   A2LA’s global reach and signatories in global multilateral recognition arrangements provide credibility to the ISASecure® scheme and to ISASecure™ certification bodies. We look forward to collaborating with A2LA to secure automation that affects our everyday lives”. A2LA is excited to be working with ISA Secure.
