Since the previous issue of A2LA Today, the following individuals have achieved the status of “Staff Approved Lead Assessor” and have begun performing assessments for A2LA:

Paul Matera – December 6, 2016 – Mr. Matera resides in Vancouver, WA and has over 25 years of experience within the quality management arena.  He maintains multiple agency registrations and certifications including: American Welding Society CWI/QC-1, International Code Council, American Concrete Institute, Oregon Building Officials Association and the Washington Association of Building Officials. As a registered special inspector, he has provided special inspections on many projects throughout Oregon, Washington, California and Hawaii. Special inspections performed include soils compaction and control, shoring systems, structural concrete, pre-stressed concrete, grouted PT tendon systems, structural masonry, structural steel and welding, high-strength bolting, spray-applied fireproofing, fire stopping, wood systems, post-installed anchor systems and hold-downs, and others.

Mr. Matera will be assigned to assessments in the ISO/IEC 17020 Special Inspection area.

Matthew (Scott) Tillison – December 28, 2016 – Mr. Tillison resides in Morton, IL, holds a B.S. in Business Management and maintains Certified Manager of Quality / Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) and Certified Quality Process Analyst (CQPA) certifications from the American Society for Quality (ASQ).  

Mr. Tillison has over 18 years in industrial, automotive, medical, military and manufacturing calibration programs.  Formally trained by the United States Marine Corps in the field of calibration, he has managed 14 implementations for ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratories.  He began his commercial calibration laboratory career in Peoria, IL, working for a factory maintenance organization.  Through this employer, he worked with Caterpillar, Inc., Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, Eaton Aerospace, Nissan, and Mercedes-Benz in varying capacities.  He held the position of Calibration and Quality Services Manager where he was responsible for an enterprise ISO/IEC 17025 system spanning 21 laboratories.  

Mr. Tillison will be assigned to ISO/IEC 17025 assessments in the calibration field.

Dixie Marlin – February 15, 2017 – Ms. Marlin resides in Columbia, TN and received her B.S. in Biology from Morehead State University in Morehead, KY.  Ms. Marlin began her career performing soil chemistry research with the University of Kentucky, Department of Agronomy, then moved to the UK Regulatory Services Department where she performed agricultural analyses for the State’s agricultural regulatory program for several years.  She relocated to the Cincinnati, OH area and accepted a position performing inorganic and organic soil chemistry research in support of the University of Cincinnati, Center Hill Research Facility, under a U.S. EPA SuperFund Contract.  In 1993, she accepted a position with DataChem Laboratories, Cincinnati facility, as a GC/MS Chemist, performing volatile and semi-volatile analyses in solid, aqueous and air matrices.  In 1999, she was promoted to the position of QA/QC Coordinator for the facility, where she established compliance with ISO Guide 25, the precursor to ISO/IEC 17025, and the subsequent revisions, along with various other state regulatory programs.  In 2007, Ms. Marlin relocated to the Nashville, TN area and accepted a position as Technical Specialist/QC Manager with Environmental Science Corporation, dba ESC Lab Sciences, where she remained until June 2015.  From June 2015 through February 2016, Ms. Marlin was the Functional Validation Manager for SGS Accutest Laboratories, Inc. where she performed internal assessments of analytical processes in 7 network laboratories.  Through experience with each of these organizations, Ms. Marlin has gained extensive experience with environmental organic chemistry and microbiology, industrial hygiene analyses, metals, wet chemistry analyses, environmental lead, asbestos by PCM, PLM and TEM, aquatic toxicity, cryptosporidium/giardia, mold and various specialty analyses.  

Ms. Marlin will be assigned to ISO/IEC 17025 assessments in the chemical and environmental fields of testing.
