A2LA Accredits First City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Special Inspection Agency
August 24, 2018, Frederick, MD – A2LA has accredited its first City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Special Inspection Agency to the ISO/IEC 17020:2012 – Requirements for the Operation of Various Types of Bodies Performing Inspection. Distinct Engineering Solutions, Inc., located in North Brunswick, NJ, added the Philadelphia requirements to their Scope of Accreditation to extend their existing accreditation to additional jurisdictions. They received initial accreditation to ISO/IEC 17020:2012 for the New York City Special Inspection requirements on April 11, 2016.
A2LA is an approved accrediting body recognized by the City of Philadelphia for the accreditation of Special Inspection Agencies. ISO/IEC 17020 defines inspection as the “examination of a product, process, service or installation or their design and determination of its conformity with specific requirements or, on the basis of professional judgement, with general requirements.” To be an approved to perform inspections in the City of Philadelphia, an agency must show that they have special inspectors registered within each area of expertise, or the agency may maintain current accreditation from an established accreditation body in accordance with ISO/IEC 17020.
